Cypher FAQ
- Which Zero Motorcycles models have Cypher III+ upgrade capabilities?
Cypher III+ upgrade possibilities can be viewed in our online configurator or in the Zero mobile app. Zero MY20-MY22 SR/F and SR/S models have select Cypher III+ capabilities. Additionally, the MY22 SR has select upgrade options.
- Are Cypher III+ upgrades sold as a subscription model?
No. All current Cypher III+ upgrades are purchased one time and belong to the motorcycle for its lifetime.
- Are Cypher III+ upgrades transferrable to a new bike?
No. All purchased upgrades are associated with a specific VIN and cannot be transferred. If an owner sells a Cypher upgraded Zero motorcycle in the used market, those upgrades will remain attached to the bike VIN (not the original owner). The new owner does not need to purchase again.
- Are Cypher III+ upgrades transferrable to a new owner?
Yes, if a Zero model is sold second hand to a new owner, the active upgrades stay with the bike (and VIN) and transfer to the new owner. The owner will need to register the bike with the Zero mobile application.
- Is it possible to remove a Cypher III+upgrade?
We do not currently support Cypher III+ upgrade removal.
- Is a Cypher III+ upgrade returnable?
All Cypher III+ upgrades once purchased and installed cannot be returned. However, a Cypher III+ upgrade that is purchased but not installed can be returned within 30 days.
- Does a Cypher III+ upgrade ever expire if it is purchased but not yet installed?
No. Cypher upgrades can be installed any time after purchase. Reminder, some upgrades require a dealer visit based on model and year.
- Are any Cypher III+ upgrades available for the Cypher II operating system?
No, currently there are no upgrade options for Cypher II OS.
- How can I purchase a Cypher III+ upgrade?
Cypher III+ upgrades can be purchased at your local dealer or the Zero mobile application.
- Can I finance Cypher III+ upgrades with the purchase of a new motorcycle?
In North America, Cypher III+ upgrades can be financed along with a new motorcycle if purchased and installed at the time of sale from a dealership.
- Is there risk a Cypher III+ upgrade can be hacked?
Each Cypher III+ purchase code is unique to the product feature and VIN of the owner’s motorcycle and registered as an active license key with Zero Motorcycles. Therefore, existing codes cannot be applied to any other motorcycles and a forged code would not work with a Zero motorcycle that has not officially registered those upgrades.
- Does Extended Range Charging affect the lifespan of my Z-Force battery?
No
- With Extended Range Charging, will the new baseline for SR and SR/F standard become 15.6kW?
- For 10% upgrade on premium 22MY SR/F and SR/S 15.6kWh, the new baseline becomes 17.3kWh (now OE spec on 22MY and 23MY)
- For 10% upgrade on standard 22MY SR/F and SR/S 14.4kWh, the new baseline becomes 17.3kWh
- For the 20% upgrade on 22MY SR 14.4kWh, the new baseline becomes 17.3kWh
- Will the 6kW Rapid Charger accessory benefit from Faster Charging upgrades?
- The 6kW rapid charger is not eligible for additional power due to its mechanical design
- Total possible charging with Faster Charging goes to 13kw. 7kW + 6kW on Premium
- 7kW is maximum on flat six
- If you are replacing a Charger or Power Pack on a bike with Cypher III+ features, what are the technical implications or backend implications for the replacement?
- No implications to battery
- Cypher III+ upgrades are tied to VIN in our database and configured on MBB; replacement charger will be same rate as prior as its governed by license key on MBB
- What will be the process to manage the replacement of an MBB?
Cypher store upgrades will need to be programmed by Zero Customer Service into the bike’s MBB ; license keys are served OTA so a replacement MBB would go out simply with updated firmware and Cypher Store upgrades would be installed OTA at the customer’s local dealership.
- How would a dealer (or Zero employee) know what Cypher III+ upgrades are installed on a motorcycle?
Cypher upgrades are tracked by VIN (MC Asset) in SFDC by the After-sales team in each region.
- How does a customer know what Cypher III+ upgrades are installed on a bike?
- At present, there is no in-app or online documentation of Cypher Store features on a bike
- Features can be manually verified on the bike using the dash. The only exceptions are Faster Charging and Performance Boost.
- Heated grip hardware does not come stock on the new 22MY SR. If a customer purchases this as an accessory, what is required to enable the feature on the bike?
At present, this would require a purchase code from Zero P&A team (at no additional cost to customer or dealer) to enable the feature.
- If these upgrades require any updates over time, how are those performed?
Cypher Store updates will be served within future firmware releases.
- Is the Purchase Code the same as the code generated via ZeroPassCode server? If such a code is generated via ZeroPascode, do we have to enter or update something in the CypherStore backend?
No, Purchase Code is not the same - it is a separate 12-digit alpha numeric number based on the product code and VIN. It will be generated in the Cypher Store admin panel by the Aftersales team and shared dealers for feature install.
- What is included in the 22MY SR Speed and Power upgrade as far as ‘Advanced Motorcycle Stability Control’?
The SR comes OE equipped with straight-line ABS and Traction Control (TC) as well as with the same TC modes as SR/F/S. What you get with the performance upgrade (+15% torque, +20% speed and +53% power) is cornering ABS and TC. The "straight-line" we refer to as "Base MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control)", and the addition of cornering we refer to as "Advanced MSC".
- Does Parking Mode include a parking brake?
No, Parking Mode allows the rider a low toggle reverse and forward mode to make parking easier.
- Can a Zero owner manage Cypher III+ upgrades for multiple motorcycles under one Zero owner registration?
Not at this time. Each bike requires unique owner registration credentials.
- What is the warranty coverage for Cypher III+ upgrades?
Warranty coverage for Cypher III+ upgrades is consistent with our normal motorcycle coverage (no difference).
- Where can I find a license agreement for Cypher III+ upgrades?
The software license agreement is available in the online Cypher Store.
