Sometimes, even the most capable overland 4x4 must admit defeat. Certain trails just aren’t meant for four wheelers. However, equipped with lightweight and compact X Line bikes, friends of Zero Kaycee Landsaw and Bryce Harper-Smith extended their explorable range and kept the Utah adventure going.
Overlanding rigs, by design, are meant to take you farther down the road less traveled. However, even at the great distances most can achieve, some four-wheeled overlanders still leave you wanting more.
Zero X Line bikes, on the other hand – lightweight, compact, and strapped onto our rigs without stealing space from essential gear – extend our range of exploration. No fuel cans, no grease, no drama, charge and go.
Once at camp, instead of settling into chairs, we geared up and saddled up. There were trails beyond the two-track beckoning our wanderlust.
On tight switchbacks, loose rock climbs, and rutted-out sections, having a lightweight and nimble bike makes all the difference. A simple trail ride turned into a showcase for XB’s and XE’s instant torque and agility.
Without the rumble of exhaust or a vibrating engine drowning out the senses, a hidden experience appears. Gravel crunching under tires, the wind brushing through tree branches, each rider’s own laughter echoing off the canyon walls. For us, riding the X Line bikes isn't about pushing the limits, but experiencing things in a way gas burning 4- and 2-wheelers never could.
By sunset, while helmets and boots aired out by the trucks, we finally settled into those chairs around the fire. We reminisced about the ledge we scrambled, the lines we cleaned (and the ones we didn’t), and the views reserved for those willing to go further.
That’s the beauty of the X Line: rigs get you far, but the bikes take you farther. And sometimes, the best miles of an overland trip are the ones where the rigs stop, and the X Line starts.
